WASHINGTON, DC (June 13, 2019) – The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) today announced that the 2019 Mazda6 has earned its “TOP SAFETY PICK” award when equipped with specific headlights.

To qualify as a 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests, as well as a good or acceptable rating in the passenger-side small overlap front test. It also needs an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and a good or acceptable headlight rating.

The 2019 Mazda6 earns good ratings in all six IIHS crashworthiness evaluations.

The 2019 Mazda6 i-Activsense safety features are now standard on every Mazda6 sold. These features include Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist, Smart Brake Support and Mazda Radar Cruise Control with stop and go function.

„Mazda designs its vehicles with the driver in mind. Taking an active approach to safety gives the driver more peace of mind, which makes driving more fun,“ said Mazda President Jeff Guyton. „Confident driving is better driving, and the updates to the 2019 Mazda6 show Mazda’s commitment to providing our customers with advanced safety technologies.“

The 2019 Mazda6 now joins the 2019 Mazda3 Sedan and Hatch, 2019 CX-3, 2019 CX-9 as TOP SAFETY PICK winners, while the CX-5 earns the higher-tier TOP SAFETY PICK+ award.

The Mazda6 is on sale now with a starting MSRP of $23,800.
