Car of the Week - January 7, 2002
2002 Chevrolet Camaro SS
If indeed this is the last Camaro, then it is taking its exit in style. The style we tested was the SS, or Sebring Silver, and from the moment that the key ignites its throaty growling V8 you will be tempted to see if the beast can indeed do the quarter mile in under 14 seconds. The 2002 is true to its heritage: super quick, tight in the turns, and actually affordable. Overall, the 2002 models feature only slight revisions: Z28 coupes and convertibles get P245/50ZR16 Goodyear Eagle RSA tires as standard equipment, the V8s get an auxiliary power steering cooler, and there are some new colors. This car gets an amusing assortment of reactions from young males: from subtle nods of approval to the mock bowing "we are not worthy." Worthy or not, unless there is a sudden surge of sales, this edition may very well be the final edition. - Editor |
